Over 600 guests gathered Saturday night at Leonard’s Palazzo
for the 35th Aesclepius Medical Society  annual fundraising gala. The guests included members of different organizations such as; Haitian American Psychiatric Association, Local 1199, the largest healthcare union in the country,Haitian American Nurses Association (,HANA),  Association Medicale Haitienne a L’Etranger (AMHE),  among many others.

The formation of Aesclepius Medical Society in 1985 by Haitian health care professionals was due in large measure to the crusading efforts to promote ‘the advancement of minorities in the field of medicine through mentorship academic support and resource”, according to the organization’s official bio. Most recently,  the organization has been focusing on allocating mobile clinics in Haiti. With this goal in mind  the organization held its annual gala, this past Saturday, in order to help raise the  funds necessary to make it a reality.

The Master of Ceremony for the evening was Adele Flateau. The evening started with an acoustic performance by a new and promising solo artist,  whose stage name is “Smooth Jude”.  There was a presentation highlighting the accomplishments of the organization over the last three decades and showcasing their involvement in helping to  improve the health and quality of life for the under-privileged. The organization took the opportunity to present awards to three honorees, HANA, Errorl Pierre, who is Senior Vice President of State Programs at Healthfirst, and Dr. Andre Peck , the Executive Director of the Haitian American Community Coalition (HCC).

Guests paid $150,  which included cocktail hour, a formal sit-down dinner and dancing to the beat of one of the top Haitian bands out of Florida, Klass. In addition, attendees of the Gala had the opportunity to participate in a half and half raffle, where one lucky person won over $800.

Under the   leadership of Executive Director Nicole Francis,  Aesclepius has put together another great event. Attendees left the venue well satisfied, dinner was delicious, Klass was electrifying and the opportunity to network was endless. The only glitches, unfortunately happened after the event, where many attendees had to wait over an hour to receive their car out of valet parking.  Hopefully the organizer will address this issue for next year.

I report, you decide.
